SMB Plastering and Sons

SMB Plastering and Sons is a family run firm working out of Bromley, across South East London and over the Kent border. Walls skimmed flat, ceilings repaired or replaced, artex taken back, floors screeded, rendering inside and out, and the making good that older houses need constantly.

Twenty years on the tools, domestic and commercial. The work is priced after a look at the job, in writing, so there is a figure before anything starts. Rooms are sheeted, waste goes out as it is made, and the site gets swept and cleared down at the end of every day rather than the end of the week.

Good honest business, we called SMB after we had a bad experience with previous contractors. Frank attended our home and heard what we wanted to achieve and gave us a range of options and ideas as well as highlighting a few cost saving that could be made. The work is immaculate (we had our house skimmed), the detail, care and attention is spot on. Frank was incredibly polite, starts on time and provided good chat :) Thanks! 100% would recommend

Frank and Steve did a fantastic job on my hallway! Really professional team and their work is seamless. I was really impressed, and they even fixed my skirting board and put it back on for me, a very appreciated extra! Would highly recommend. The whole experience was really smooth. I contacted them last Sunday, Frank was round my house quoting by 10am on Monday, and he fitted me in for the work on Friday. Arrived bang on time both times which I appreciated. The price was also very reasonable. Thanks very much to you both.

Peter, W3Repair and make good kitchen walls

Very, very happy with Franks work finishing off kitchen walls after having been let down by a builder. It was a tricky job as the granite worktops ect had already been installed but I couldn't be happier with the result. Polite, friendly, professional, punctual, clean and tidy. A job well done.

Very professional, was very clear on what exactly will be done. Agreed a price and kept me update all the way through. Happy with the work completed and after care as well. Very helpful and highly recommended.

Areas we cover

12 areas, one page each. What changes between them is the building rather than the trade: a 1930s semi in Petts Wood and a Victorian terrace in Lewisham want different things from the same plastering, and the practical side of boarding out a converted flat is decided by the stairs as much as by the room. The services page covers the work itself.

Frequently asked questions

Which areas do you cover?

Plastering, screeding and rendering out of Bromley, across South East London and the Kent border, on the thirties semis and Victorian terraces that make up most of the housing here. If you are outside that it is still worth asking, because it depends on the size of the job and how the week is already booked.

Do you give a price before starting?

Yes, always in writing, and after somebody has looked at the job rather than off a description. If something turns up behind the plaster once work starts, you are told before it is dealt with, not after.

Do you work in houses people are living in?

Most of the work is in occupied property. Floors get sheeted, doorways get sealed where the rest of the house is in use, and noisy work is kept to the middle of the day so the neighbours can live with it.

Do you take on commercial work?

Yes. Domestic and commercial both, and a commercial fit out tends to run to a tighter programme with more of the work happening out of hours, which is planned for rather than charged for as a surprise.

How soon can you start?

It depends what is already booked and how big the job is. A single room repair usually fits in sooner than a whole property. The honest date gets given at estimate stage rather than an optimistic one.

Do you take the waste away?

Yes. Hacked off plaster, board offcuts and packaging all leave with the job. Nothing gets left in a communal hallway or stacked in a front garden.
